Detroit: the Sixth Borough of MapNYC
State of the Map US begins this Friday and runs through the weekend in Detroit. StreetCred will be there and I’ll give a talk called “POI Data Illuminated” on Friday at 1:30 in Room A. I hope to see you there!
This is also the second weekend of MapNYC, a contest to map all the places in New York for Bitcoin. As we speak, there are hundreds of New Yorkers capturing POI data all over the city, which you can see here. They collect points for data creation and validation, and see their position on a leaderboard. It’s fun, and as some have said, kind of addictive.
One of our participants had a request:
The fact is, MapNYC works anywhere, but it’s most fun when there are other users to create and validate data with you. So we’re going to do a MapNYC side contest in Detroit from Thursday, October 4 through Sunday, October 7. Here’s how it works:
Use it to create POIs in Detroit from Thursday to Sunday. It’s fun!
Collect ten points or more by creating valid POIs and validating POIs created by others.
After the conference, take a screenshot of your user profile page and post it, mentioning us on either Twitter or Instagram. (If you’re shy, that’s okay: you can also email it to firstname.lastname@example.org).
We will send you a T-Shirt. Yay!
We will also open the data under a license compatible with OpenStreetMap so everyone can benefit.
Hope to see you this weekend in Detroit, and I hope you enjoy MapNYC!
